How to Write AI Video Prompts for Film
A useful AI video prompt behaves more like a compact shot direction than a pile of visual adjectives. It tells the system what the audience sees, what changes, and how the camera observes it.
Describe one shot
Name the subject, environment, single primary action, framing, camera movement, light, and visual treatment. One clear action is easier to control and edit than several events competing inside one clip.
Keep identity stable
Reuse approved character and wardrobe language. Put variable instructions—action, emotion, lens, movement, weather—outside that identity block so revisions do not accidentally redesign the performer.
Prompt for the edit
Specify coverage you need: establishing shot, close reaction, insert, transition, or ending frame. Generate complementary angles instead of unrelated beautiful clips.
Change one variable at a time
When a result is close, preserve the working parts and revise the smallest possible instruction. Save prompt versions and the reference attached to every selected shot.
