How to Make an AI Short Film
The fastest way to learn AI filmmaking is to finish a short film. A focused story of one to five minutes limits generation cost, makes continuity manageable, and forces every shot to earn its place.
Choose a story sized for AI
Use one protagonist, one central problem, a small number of locations, and a clear ending. Stories built around atmosphere, transformation, memory, dreams, or a contained encounter are usually easier than dialogue-heavy ensemble dramas.
Create a visual production bible
Lock the character description, wardrobe, color palette, lens language, lighting, aspect ratio, and reference images before generating final shots. Treat this document as the source of truth for every prompt.
Generate shots, not a whole film
Break the script into numbered shots with a single action in each. Produce several versions of the most important shots, select for performance and continuity, and avoid spending credits polishing material that may be cut.
Finish with sound and editing
Build the edit before chasing visual perfection. Dialogue, ambience, music, pacing, and reaction shots can make imperfect generated footage feel intentional. Export a clean master, captions, poster, trailer, credits, and an AI-use disclosure.
